Selling Tips for Kenya: How to Write an Ad That Sells
admin October 27, 2026
Posting on KENGOT is free and unlimited, but a well-written ad sells far faster than a rushed one. These five tips will help Kenyan sellers get more calls, more messages and better prices.
1. Use clear, real photos
Photograph your own item in good daylight and show every angle, including any wear or damage. Ads with real photos get far more views than ads with stock photos, and honest photos build trust with buyers.
2. Write an honest title and description
Put the brand, model and condition in the title, for example “Samsung Galaxy A54, 128GB, barely used”. In the description, list the key features, what is included, and why you are selling.
3. Price fairly in KES
Check what similar items sell for on KENGOT and price in Kenya shillings. A fair price brings serious buyers; an inflated price is ignored, and a price that looks too good to be true puts buyers off.
4. Choose the right category and county
Buyers search by category and by county. Put your ad in the correct category and select your real county, town or area so buyers near you can find it.
5. Reply quickly and meet safely
Answer messages the same day, agree a safe public meeting place, and never accept cheques or overpayments. Never share your bank details, M-Pesa PIN or one-time codes with anyone. Read our Selling Tips and Safety Tips pages for more.
