Safety Tips
KENGOT is a marketplace that connects buyers and sellers. Follow these safety tips every time you buy or sell, wherever you are in Kenya.
1. Meet in person, in public
Meet in a busy public place during daylight, such as a shopping mall, and take someone with you. Avoid meeting at private homes or isolated locations.
2. Inspect the item first
Check the item carefully and test it before paying. For vehicles and property, verify ownership documents with the relevant authorities before committing.
3. Never pay in advance
Never send money, deposits, delivery fees, or customs charges before you have the item. KENGOT never asks you to pay through a link sent by a stranger.
4. Protect your personal information
Never share your M-Pesa PIN, bank details, passwords, or ID number with another user. Keep conversations on KENGOT so there is a record of what was agreed.
5. Watch for warning signs
Be cautious of prices far below the market rate, sellers who refuse to meet, requests to move the conversation off KENGOT, and pressure to pay quickly. If an offer feels wrong, walk away.
6. Report suspicious ads
Use the Report an Ad option on any ad that looks fraudulent, stolen, or prohibited, or contact us through the Contact Us page. Your report helps keep KENGOT safe for everyone.
