Privacy Policy
KENGOT (kengot.com) is Kenya’s free classified ads marketplace. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect when you use KENGOT, how we use it, and the choices you have. It is written for users in Kenya and is governed by the laws of Kenya, including the Data Protection Act, 2019.
1. Information we collect
When you register, we collect your name, email address, and phone number, including your Kenyan phone number. When you post an ad, we collect the ad title, description, price in Kenyan shillings, category, county, town or area, photos, and any contact details you choose to show. When you contact another user or us, we collect the messages you send. We also collect technical information such as your IP address, browser type, and pages visited, to keep the site working and secure.
2. How we use your information
We use your information to run the marketplace: to display your ads, let buyers and sellers contact each other, keep your account secure, prevent fraud and spam, and improve KENGOT. We do not sell your personal information to third parties. Your phone number and email address are shown only where you choose to display them on your ads or profile.
3. Cookies
KENGOT uses cookies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences such as location, and understand how the site is used. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but some features, such as signing in and posting ads, may not work without them. See our Cookie Policy for more detail.
4. Sharing your information
We share information only as needed to operate KENGOT: with service providers who host the site and help prevent spam, and with authorities where required by Kenyan law. Ad content you publish, including photos and contact details you include, is visible to other visitors. KENGOT does not handle payments between buyers and sellers.
5. How long we keep your information
We keep your account information while your account is active, and your ads while they are published. When you delete your account or an ad, we remove the associated public content. We may keep limited records for security, fraud prevention, and legal compliance.
6. Your rights
Under the Data Protection Act, 2019, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, and you may object to its processing. To make a request, contact us through the Contact Us page. You can also update your profile and delete your own ads at any time from your account.
7. Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information, but no website is completely secure. Choose a strong password, keep it private, and never share your M-Pesa PIN, bank details, or one-time codes with anyone. See our Safety Tips for more guidance.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The current version is always published on this page. Questions about this policy? Contact us through the Contact Us page.
